OUR CHURCH HISTORY

1981 - 1986 Our church began when 10 people began meeting in homes in November 1981. Our first Pastor was Rev. Raymond Pope, and the group agreed to the name Christian Tabernacle Church (CTC).  In December 1981, the first devotional service was held. The first choir rehearsals, Bible studies, prayer meetings and business meetings were held in the homes of various members. In January 1982, we met at the Twinbrook YMCA of Schaumburg and in March 1982, we began holding services at the Elk Grove United Presbyterian Church, where we met until 1989. In December 1984, Rev. Pope resigned, for health reasons, and after searching for a new pastor, in September 1985, Rev. Louis Stewart, our longest serving Pastor, was installed in April 1986. Under Pastor Stewart’s watch, many ministries and classes were formed, and God called twelve ministers and one evangelist out of the congregation during his tenure.
1989 - 2015 During CTC’s Fall Revival in 1989, God sent a Pastor to worship with us who informed us of a church for sale in Roselle IL. In October 1989, two hundred and fifty members and friends marched into CTC's present home at 100 S. Park St. With God's favor, the mortgage was burned in five years. Since then, Elders, Ministers and Deacons were called and appointed. In 2008, after 25 years of tending to his flock, Pastor Stewart retired but remained with his flock until God sent a new shepherd, Pastor Darryl Jenkins who remained pastor until May 2014.
In September 2014 our current Pastor, Rev. Robbie Robinson, became interim Pastor and was installed on July 15, 2015 as Senior Pastor. Under the leadership of Pastor Robinson, Teen church was formed, the boys and girls praise dance teams were revitalized, the Cherub Youth Choir was established, the 20/30 millennial ministry was started, and our Benedictal Accord was instituted.
2019 - 2022 In 2019, we completed an expansion and renovation of our facility.  The Covid-19 coronavirus affected us in 2020, which caused us to begin live streaming our services and conducting our Bible studies using the zoom technology.  During this pandemic, however, we never missed a Sunday service, or a monthly Communion.  We increased our viewership, and greatly grew attendance in our Bible studies. In 2021, we ordained our first Junior Deacons: Antonio Cormier, Jalen Cormier and Alexander Blackshear. In early 2022, God blessed us to be able to purchase and install new pews in the sanctuary, acquire a new communion table, and purchase a new church van for our bus ministry.
We humbly thank God that he continues to send dedicated and faithful workers into the vineyard of our congregation to serve on our boards and in our ministries. We pray that God will continue to pour out on Christian Tabernacle as we strive to spread the Gospel good news, believing to be a church without walls, where we always come to Praise and Worship the Lord.
